Pike County Quilt Company
specializing in Longarm Quilting
Prepare for longarming:
CONSULTATION:
Be sure to alert me of directional fabrics and any preference for stitching quilts with directional fabrics. I like to meet with my clients initially to specify deadline for completion, thread color, pantograph design and trimming preferences. All fabric and batting trimmings will be returned with the finished quilt.
QUILT PREP:
Print a copy of the quilt prep checklist PDF.
Trim all threads.
Press quilt. Seams should be pressed to one side. Seams that are pressed open can gap and split exposing the batting.
Hang or fold quilt neatly.
BACKING:
Backing MUST be larger than the quilt.
-
Baby quilt backing should be a minimum eight inches longer and wider than the quilt top.
-
All other quilts should have a backing fabric at least 12 inches longer and wider than the quilt top. For example: if your quilt is 80 x 100, your backing should be a minimum of 92 x 112.
-
Trim selvage edges before seaming.
Backing seams should be a minimum of 1/4 inch wide (I prefer 3/8 inch) and all seams should be pressed to the side.
Be mindful of directional prints when seaming backing.
Trim ends so fabric is even and square.
INTAKE SHEET:
Please be sure to complete and include the PDF intake sheet with your quilt.
BATTING:
Be sure to select and include a quality batting that is appropriate for your project's intended use. Batting size must be the same size or larger than the backing fabric. I carry Quilters Dream batting for an additional charge and am happy to assist with choosing the right batting for your particular quilt.
THREAD:
Superior Threads Omni 40 weight thread is my go-to thread for my Statler machines. Thread is included in the price. I use a matching 60 weight Bottom Line thread in the bobbin. Be sure to specify your thread color preference. I do have other types of thread including Omni, Magnifico, Fantastico and King Tut for customers who wish to add additional interest to their quilt.
